Talco is a small town located in Titus County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 494 people lived there. The town's name might come from a local candy bar or from the phrase "Texas-Arkansas-Louisiana Country." Another idea is that it came from a company name, "Texas-Arkansas-Louisiana Company."
History of Talco
The area near Talco had two post offices in the past: Gouldsboro (started in 1856) and Goolesboro (started in 1878). Because of similar names, the community changed its name to "Talco." This new name was inspired by the initials of the Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana Candy Company, which were found on a candy wrapper. In 1912, Talco moved its location to be closer to a railroad line, which helped with transportation.
A big change happened in 1936 when oil was found nearby. This discovery led to a huge economic "boom," meaning the town grew very quickly and became busy. Talco even called itself the "Asphalt capital of the world" for a while because of the oil.
