History of Talgua

Talgua was founded a long time ago. It started during the colonial period. The original spot was called "Las Mercedes" village. This area was known as a home for the Lenca people. Pedro de Alvarado and his soldiers knew about this village.

On January 2, 1963, the main town moved. This happened when Ramon Villeda Morales was president. The new main town became San Antonio de Pedernales. The old church from the original Talgua is still there. It is kept as an important historical building.
