Tallis Obed Moses was born on October 24, 1954. He is a politician and a pastor from Vanuatu. He served as the president of Vanuatu from July 6, 2017, until July 6, 2022.
Biography
Early Life and Education
Tallis Obed Moses grew up in Port Vato, which is in West Ambrym, Vanuatu. He went to primary school from 1964 to 1967. After school, he worked as a teacher in different schools.
He then decided to study religion. In 1978, he attended the Tangoa Presbyterian Bible Institute. From 1980 to 1981, he studied in Australia at the Sydney Missionary and Bible College. There, he earned a diploma in Divinity and Mission. He continued his studies at Talua Ministry Training Centre from 1985 to 1986, earning a Diploma in Theology. In 1989, he returned to Australia to study at the Alan Walker College of Evangelism. He received a Certificate of Merit there.
Religious Career
After his studies, Moses became a pastor. He served in several places, including Erromango, Ranon in North Ambrym, Luganville, and Bamefau.
Because of his religious training, he was chosen for an important role. In 2009, and again in 2013, he was elected as the moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu. A moderator is like a leader for the church's main assembly.
Becoming President
On July 6, 2017, Tallis Obed Moses was elected to be the president of Vanuatu. He took over from President Baldwin Lonsdale, who had passed away.
Moses was one of 16 people who wanted to become president. He was chosen after four rounds of voting. He received 40 votes out of 57 from the Electoral College. The Electoral College is a group of people who vote for the president. He was sworn in as president right after the election. His term as president ended on July 6, 2022.
