Later, in 1993, he earned a Master of Arts degree. This was in diplomatic studies from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom. While studying there, he learned a lot about how countries work together. He also learned about managing diplomatic offices.
Early Career and Government Roles
Before becoming president, Mr. Vurobaravu held several important roles. He worked as a coordinator for a big program in Vanuatu. This program was about reforms and was supported by the Asian Development Bank.
From 2008 to 2010, he also worked as a political adviser. This job was in the office of the Prime Minister of Vanuatu.
Serving as High Commissioner

He was called back to Vanuatu in 2015. However, on October 12, 2017, he was appointed again. President Tallis Obed Moses chose him for a second term. On November 14, 2017, he officially presented his papers to Fijian President Jioji Konrote. This made his role official.
Becoming President of Vanuatu
Nikenike Vurobaravu became the 12th president of Vanuatu. This happened during the 2022 Vanuatuan presidential election.
The Presidential Election
The election had many rounds of voting. In the first seven rounds, no candidate received enough votes to win. Finally, in the eighth round, Mr. Vurobaravu won. He received 47 out of 58 votes.
He was able to win because he talked with other politicians. Nine members from a different political group agreed to support him. This support helped him get the votes he needed to become president.
Parliament Dissolved
On August 18, 2022, President Vurobaravu made a big decision. He dissolved the parliament. This means he ended the current session of parliament early.
He did this because the prime minister, Bob Loughman, asked him to. The prime minister wanted to avoid a "no confidence vote." A no confidence vote is when politicians try to remove the prime minister from power.
This decision caused some debate. The politicians who were against it said they would challenge it in court. After parliament was dissolved, a new election was held quickly.
