Tamara Abalde Díaz was born on February 6, 1989, in Ferrol, Spain. She is a talented Spanish basketball player. Tamara currently plays for the Spanish team Durán Maquinaria Ensino.

She has played for Spain in the 2008 Summer Olympics. She also played for the Lamar Cardinals in the NCAA in the United States. Tamara is 6 feet, 1 inch tall.

Basketball runs in her family! Her father, Alberto Abalde Rodríguez, was a professional basketball player from 1980 to 1993. Her brother, Alberto Abalde Díaz, is also a professional basketball player. He plays for Real Madrid.

Tamara's Basketball Journey

Starting in Vigo

Tamara grew up in a family that loved basketball. She went to school in Vigo. In 2003, she joined the youth teams of Celta de Vigo Baloncesto. She was very young when she started playing in Spain's top basketball league. Tamara made her debut at just 15 years old!

Playing in the NCAA

After playing in Spain, Tamara went to the United States. She played college basketball for the Lamar Cardinals team. She was one of the best players in the Southland Conference. She was even named the Freshman of the Year in 2008.

During the 2007–08 season, Tamara was the only first-year player to be chosen for the All-Southland Conference First Team. She had five games where she scored double digits in two different stats. She also scored 20 points or more in eight games. On November 24, 2007, Tamara scored an amazing 44 points in one game. This was a school record! She averaged 16.0 points per game, which was one of the best in the league. She also grabbed 7.1 rebounds per game.

Becoming a Professional Player

After one season with Lamar in the NCAA, Tamara decided to become a professional player. She wanted to play in Europe. She played for a few teams in Spain and France.

In 2013, she joined the strong Spanish team Perfumerías Avenida. With this team, she won two Spanish Cups. She also won two Spanish Supercups. Her team finished second in the league twice.

Tamara then played for different clubs to get more playing time. These teams included Cadí La Seu, CREFF ¡Hola!, and Mann-Filter Casablanca. In 2018, she joined the newly promoted team Valencia Basket. Since 2021, she has been playing for Durán Maquinaria Ensino.

Playing for Spain

Tamara started playing for Spain's youth teams when she was 14. She won five medals with these teams between 2003 and 2009.

She joined the senior national team in 2008. At just 19 years old, she played in the 2008 Summer Olympics. As of 2021, she had played 68 games for Spain. She participated in two Olympic Games and two EuroBasket Women tournaments.
