Tambobamba is a town located high in the Andes mountains of Peru. Its name, Tampupampa, means "Resting plain" in the Quechua language. It is the main town, or capital, of the Cotabambas Province, found in the eastern part of the Apurímac Region.

Where is Tambobamba?
Tambobamba is located very high up, about 3,275 meters (over 10,700 feet) above sea level. It sits right next to the Palcaro River.

Tambobamba became the capital of the Cotabambas Province on March 10, 1960. This was an important step for the town.
How People Make a Living
The people in Tambobamba mostly work in agriculture. They grow crops that do well in high-altitude areas. This is similar to the farming done in the nearby Grau Province.
Getting Around Tambobamba
Because Tambobamba is so high in the mountains, many of its smaller communities find it easier to travel to Cusco. The main road from Tambobamba leads in that direction.

Important Buildings
The Tambobamba Temple is a beautiful church built from adobe bricks. Its front is made of stone in a fancy Baroque style. Inside, there is a special image of the Virgin of Carmen.
Fun Traditions and Festivals
The biggest celebration in Tambobamba is the Feast of the Virgin of the Assumption. During this festival, there are unique bullfights that involve condors. People also enjoy cockfights and watch performances by dancers and groups.
Carnaval T'ikapallana is another exciting festival held in Tambobamba during February and March. It's so important that the Ministry of Culture has declared it a Cultural Heritage of the Nation. This means it's a very special part of Peru's history and traditions.
