Tambores is a small town in Uruguay. It's special because it's located in two different areas at once: the Paysandú Department and the Tacuarembó Department.
Where is Tambores?
Tambores is located right on the border between the Paysandú and Tacuarembó departments. A road that separates the two departments runs through the town. It's about 8 kilometers south of where this road meets Route 26. The town is also about 33 kilometers southwest of Tacuarembó, which is the capital city of the Tacuarembó Department. A train track connecting Montevideo, Tacuarembó, and Rivera also goes through Tambores.
How Tambores Grew
Tambores has grown quite a bit over the years.
- On 21 August 1936, it was officially recognized as a "Pueblo," which means a village. This happened because of a special law called Ley N° 9.588.
- Later, on 15 October 1963, its status was upgraded even more to a "Villa," which means a town. This was made possible by another law, Ley N° 13.167.
