Tammy's Early Career
Tammy Lynn Leppert started working as a model when she was young. She appeared on the cover of CoverGirl magazine in October 1978. Tammy also loved beauty pageants. She began competing when she was just 4 years old. She entered almost 300 pageants and won about 280 of them!
Acting Roles
Tammy also had some acting roles. She was in the 1983 movie Scarface. In this film, she played a girl who distracted a lookout during an intense scene. Before that, she was in the teen movie Spring Break. She played a participant in a boxing match. It is said that parts of her body were used for the main poster of the movie. Tammy reportedly planned to move to Hollywood in 1983. She also played herself in a film called Cover Girl Behind the Scenes.
Before Tammy Disappeared
After filming Spring Break, Tammy went to a party alone. When she came home, her friend Wing Flannagan said she seemed like "a different person." Later, while filming Scarface, Tammy suddenly left after only four days. Her mother thought Tammy might have been scared of someone. She believed Tammy was worried about being harmed.
Tammy's Disappearance
Tammy Leppert was last seen in Cocoa Beach, Florida, on July 6, 1983. She was wearing a blue denim shirt with flowers and a matching skirt. She also had a gray purse and sandals. Some reports say she left without shoes or money.
A friend told police they had an argument while driving her home. He said he later "left her in a parking lot." This friend was the last person to see her. However, he is not considered a suspect in her disappearance. Tammy's mother said that Tammy was "afraid" of this friend.
Calls After Her Disappearance
After Tammy disappeared, a detective received two phone calls. The woman calling claimed Tammy was alive. In the first call, she said Tammy was fine and would make contact later. In the second call, she said Tammy was going to school to become a nurse.

People of Interest
Christopher Bernard Wilder was a person of interest. He was suspected in the disappearance of several young women. Tammy's family had filed a claim against Wilder. However, they stopped the process because they doubted he was involved in Tammy's case. Their agent also did not believe Wilder was involved.
Another person of interest was John Brennan Crutchley. He was suspected in other cases. He passed away in prison in 2002.
