A Look Back: Tampico's History
Tampico began to grow around the year 1840. Its very first business was a blacksmith shop. A blacksmith is a person who makes and repairs things out of metal, especially iron, using fire and tools.
It is thought that the community got its name from Tampico, a city in Mexico. In 1852, Tampico got its own post office. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1909.
