History of Tando Soomro

How Tando Soomro Got Its Name

The village was first known as 'village of Nizamanis'. This name changed when Rais Soomer Khan became the leader of the village. It was then named Tando Soomro, which means 'Soomer's Town'.

Some people might think the word "Soomro" in the name refers to the well-known Soomro family name in Sindh. However, this is not correct. The name comes directly from 'Soomer Khan'. Interestingly, there are no families with the Soomro surname living in Tando Soomro today.

Community Spirit During Floods

In 2011, very heavy rains caused floods across the entire Sindh province, including Tando Soomro. Unlike other areas, the villagers here did not wait for outside help. The Nizamani community held a meeting and collected a large amount of money.

They used this money to quickly drain the rainwater from the village. They also provided food, medicine, and clothes to those who needed them. This shows how strong and helpful the community in Tando Soomro is.
