Tanuja Chandra, born in 1969, is a talented Indian film director and writer. She is known for creating movies that often feature strong female characters. Her work includes popular films like Dushman (1998) and Sangharsh (1999).
Tanuja comes from a family deeply involved in writing and films. Her mother, Kamna Chandra, is a well-known film writer. Her brother, Vikram Chandra, is an author, and her sister, Anupama Chopra, is a film critic.

Tanuja Chandra's Career Journey
Tanuja Chandra started her career in the film industry in 1995. She began by directing a TV series called Zameen Aasmaan, which starred Tanvi Azmi. The next year, in 1996, she directed another TV show named Mumkin.
Early Success in Film
In 1997, Tanuja helped write the story for a very successful movie, Dil To Pagal Hai, directed by Yash Chopra. This film was a big hit.
She often worked with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. She wrote the story for his movie Zakhm in 1998. In the same year, she directed her first movie for the big screen, also with Mahesh Bhatt, called Dushman. This movie starred Kajol and was praised by critics. It also did quite well at the box office.
Her next film, Sangharsh, came out in 1999. It was also produced by Mahesh Bhatt and featured actors like Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta.
Directing More Films
After these early successes, Tanuja Chandra directed several more films. Some of these movies, like Sur – The Melody of Life (2002) and Film Star (2005), were both directed and written by her. Critics often gave good reviews for her work as a director and writer on these films.
Her later films include Zindaggi Rocks (2006), starring Sushmita Sen. Tanuja also wrote the story and screenplay for this movie. In 2008, she directed Hope and a Little Sugar, which was filmed entirely in English in the United States.
More recently, in early 2016, she directed a short film called Silvat for Zee Telefilms, which starred Kartik Aaryan. Her latest movie, Qarib Qarib Singlle, was released in 2017. It starred Irrfan Khan and Parvathy.
Besides films, Tanuja Chandra has also been working on a new television show for Star, which is expected to start production soon. She also wrote a book of short stories called "BIJNIS WOMEN," which was published by Penguin Random House.
