Kartik Aaryan (born Kartik Tiwari on November 22, 1990) is a popular Indian actor. He is famous for his roles in Hindi movies. He has won many awards, like an IIFA Award and six Zee Cine Awards. In 2019, he was even on Forbes India's list of top celebrities.

While studying engineering, he started his acting career. His first movie was Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011). He then acted in romantic films like Akaash Vani (2013) and Kaanchi (2014). These movies did not make him very famous at first.

Kartik Aaryan later had big successes with comedies. These included Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015) and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018). Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety was a major turning point for him. He also starred in romantic comedies like Luka Chuppi and Pati Patni Aur Woh (both 2019).

Early Life and Education

Kartik Tiwari, who later became Kartik Aaryan, was born on November 22, 1990. He was born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. Both of his parents are doctors. His father, Manish Tiwari, is a children's doctor. His mother, Mala Tiwari, is a women's doctor.

Kartik went to St. Paul's School in Gwalior. After school, he studied biotechnology engineering at DY Patil University. This was in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. While studying, he secretly dreamed of becoming an actor. He often skipped classes to go to auditions. These auditions were sometimes two hours away.

Starting His Acting Journey

Kartik Aaryan started modeling while at university. For three years, he tried out for films without success. Then, he took an acting course at the Kreating Charakters institute. He only told his parents about his dream to act after he signed his first movie. His mother wanted him to finish his engineering degree. So, he completed it after his first film was released.

Kartik Aaryan started his acting career while still in college. His first film was Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011). It was a buddy film directed by Luv Ranjan. His next movie came out two years later. It was another romance with Luv Ranjan and Nushrat Bharucha. The film was called Akaash Vani (2013). It told the story of two lovers who are separated. Critics liked how the movie explored social issues in India. They also praised the chemistry between Kartik and Nushrat.

The cinematographer from Kartik's earlier films showed his work to Subhash Ghai. Ghai was impressed and cast Kartik in his film Kaanchi (2014). This drama was about a woman seeking justice. This film was a comedy about live-in relationships in small towns. It was filmed in his hometown of Gwalior. Both Kartik and his co-star Kriti Sanon were praised for their performances.

In 2022, Kartik Aaryan played Rooh Baba in the horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He starred alongside Tabu and Kiara Advani. While filming the climax, he temporarily lost his voice. Critics noted his energy and confidence in the film.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 became his biggest commercial success. It earned over 2.67 billion Indian Rupees worldwide. He won the Zee Cine Critics Award for Best Actor – Male. He also received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

His next role was in the psychological thriller Freddy. He played a socially awkward dentist with a dark past. The film was released on Disney+ Hotstar. To prepare, he gained 14 kilograms.
