Kiara Advani (born Alia Advani on July 31, 1991) is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi and Telugu films. She is one of India's most popular and highest-paid actresses. Advani has won several awards for her acting, including an IIFA Award.
Before becoming an actress, Kiara worked as a teacher. She started her acting career in 2014 with the comedy film Fugly. Her first major success came in 2016 when she played the wife of cricketer MS Dhoni in the hit movie M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. She received praise for her role as a woman in a difficult marriage in the Netflix film ... Stories (2018).
Her career took off with the 2019 romantic drama Kabir Singh. She also starred in the comedy Good Newwz the same year. Both films were huge box office hits. For Good Newwz, she won an IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Kiara continued to star in successful movies like the horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) and the family drama Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022). She was praised for her roles in the war film Shershaah (2021) and the romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023). She was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for both of these films.

Early Life and Family
Kiara Advani was born on July 31, 1991. Her father, Jagdeep Advani, is a businessman, and her mother, Genevieve Jaffrey, is a teacher. Her mother's family has Scottish, Irish, Portuguese, and Spanish roots. Kiara has a younger brother named Mishaal, who is a musician.
Through her mother's side, she is related to famous actors like Ashok Kumar and Saeed Jaffrey.
Kiara went to the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. Later, she studied at Jai Hind College and earned a degree in mass communications.
When she started acting, she changed her name from Alia Advani to Kiara Advani. She was inspired by Priyanka Chopra's character, Kiara, in the movie Anjaana Anjaani (2010). She said that actor Salman Khan suggested the name change because Alia Bhatt was already a famous actress.
Acting Career
Early Movies (2014–2019)
Kiara's first movie was the comedy Fugly in 2014. The film did not do well at the box office, and Kiara said she felt "very low" and had to wait for new opportunities.
Two years later, she starred in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. This movie was a biography of the famous cricketer MS Dhoni. Kiara played his wife, Sakshi Rawat. The film was a huge success and earned over ₹216 crore worldwide.
Her next film, Machine (2017), was not successful. After that, she worked with director Karan Johar on the Netflix movie ... Stories (2018). In the film, she played a wife who was unhappy in her marriage. Critics said she gave a lovely performance.
In 2018, Kiara also acted in her first Telugu film, Bharat Ane Nenu, with superstar Mahesh Babu. The movie was about a student who becomes a chief minister. It was a massive hit, earning ₹225 crore. However, her next Telugu film, Vinaya Vidheya Rama, was not as successful.
Becoming a Star (2019–Present)
In 2019, Kiara starred in the romantic drama Kabir Singh with Shahid Kapoor. The movie earned over ₹378 crore, becoming her highest-grossing film. However, it was also controversial. Some people criticized it for how it showed relationships.
Later that year, she appeared in the comedy Good Newwz with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh. The film was about two couples dealing with a mix-up at a fertility clinic. It was another big hit, and Kiara won an IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role.
In 2020, Kiara starred in the Netflix film Guilty, where she played a troubled college student. Critics praised her "electric performance." She also appeared in the horror-comedy Laxmii and the romantic comedy Indoo Ki Jawani.
Her 2021 film Shershaah was based on the life of army hero Vikram Batra. Kiara played his girlfriend, Dimple Cheema. The movie was released on Amazon Prime Video and became the most-watched Indian film on the platform. Her performance was highly praised, and she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
In 2022, she had two more blockbusters. The first was the horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which earned over ₹2.6 billion worldwide. The second was Jugjugg Jeeyo, a family comedy-drama about divorce. Critics liked her performance in the film.
In 2023, she reunited with actor Kartik Aaryan for Satyaprem Ki Katha, a romantic movie about a difficult marriage. Her performance was called "sensitive" and "soulful," and she earned her second Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
Kiara's recent projects include the Telugu action film Game Changer (2025). She is also set to star in major upcoming films like War 2 and Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.
Personal Life

For a long time, there were rumors that Kiara was dating actor Sidharth Malhotra. The couple got married on February 7, 2023, in a beautiful ceremony in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
Their wedding photos were very popular and became the most-liked Instagram post in India. Kiara and Sidharth welcomed their daughter on July 15, 2025.
