Diljit Dosanjh (born January 6, 1984) is a famous Indian singer, actor, and film producer. He works in both Punjabi and Hindi movies. Diljit is known for his hit songs and for starring in many popular films. Some of his movies, like Jatt & Juliet 2, Sajjan Singh Rangroot, Honsla Rakh, and Jatt & Juliet 3, are among the highest-earning Punjabi films ever made.
Diljit started his career in 2002. He became well-known in Punjabi music with albums like Smile (2005) and Chocolate (2008). His album The Next Level (2009), made with Yo Yo Honey Singh, was a huge success. He first appeared in a Punjabi movie in 2010 and then became a lead actor in The Lion of Punjab in 2011.
In 2016, Diljit made his big debut in Bollywood with the movie Udta Punjab. For this role, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He also received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Good Newwz (2019). Diljit has won the PTC Award for Best Actor five times. He has also been a judge on the TV reality show Rising Star for three seasons.
In 2020, his album G.O.A.T. became very popular and appeared on Billboard charts. In 2024, Diljit began a worldwide concert tour called Dil Luminati.

Early Life
Diljit Dosanjh was born on January 6, 1984, in a village called Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab, India. His father, Balbir Singh, used to work for Punjab Roadways. His mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, was a homemaker. He has an older sister and a younger brother. When he was a child, Diljit moved to Ludhiana to live with his uncle. He went to Guru Harkrishan Public School in Ludhiana.
Career Highlights
Early Music and Rise to Fame (2003–2010)
Diljit released his first album, Ishq Da Uda Ada, in 2003. Rajinder Singh from Finetone Cassettes helped him start his music career. He suggested Diljit spell his first name as Diljit instead of Daljit.
Diljit's popularity grew with his third album, Smile, released in 2005. It included popular songs like "Nachh Diyan Alran Kuwariyan." His next album, Ishq Ho Gaya, came out in 2006. In 2008, he released his fifth album, Chocolate. During this time, he often wore a stylish Morni Dastar, which inspired many young Punjabi Sikh fans.
In 2009, Diljit released several singles, including "Bhagat Singh (The Tribute)" and "Dance With Me" with Yo Yo Honey Singh. On August 20, 2009, he released his sixth album, The Next Level, with music by Yo Yo Honey Singh. This album was very successful. Songs like "Dil Nach Da" and "Panga" were big hits. The album also featured "Ru Ba Ru," which is Diljit's only Urdu song. Fans loved the combination of Honey Singh's music and Diljit's powerful voice.
In 2010, Diljit sang a song for the movie Mel Karade Rabba. The song was featured in the film's opening credits.
Punjabi Film Debut and Continued Success (2011–2019)
Diljit started acting in mainstream Punjabi films in 2011. His first lead role was in The Lion of Punjab, released in February 2011. Even though the movie was not a big hit, his song "Lak 28 Kudi Da" from the soundtrack became very popular. This song, featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh, reached number 1 on the official Asian Download Chart in the US.
In July 2011, his second Punjabi film, Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, was released. This movie, also starring Gippy Grewal and Neeru Bajwa, did very well. Diljit sang six songs for the film's soundtrack.
In March 2012, Diljit released his first religious album called Sikh. It had eight songs about the ideas and beliefs of the Sikh religion. In June 2012, Diljit starred in Jatt & Juliet, which became one of the biggest hits in the Punjabi film industry. This award-winning movie, directed by Anurag Singh, also starred Neeru Bajwa. Diljit won the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actor for his role. He sang five songs for the film's soundtrack.
In November 2012, he released his eighth album, Back 2 Basics, with music by Tru Skool. Their song "Kharku" won "Best Bhangra Song of the Year" at both the Brit Asia TV Music Awards and the PTC Punjabi Music Awards.
In June 2013, a sequel to Jatt & Juliet was released, called Jatt & Juliet 2. Diljit played a police officer in this film. He also sang four songs for its soundtrack. In August 2013, Diljit's music video "Proper Patola" was released on Vevo. It was the first Punjabi song to be featured on Vevo and quickly gained over a million views on YouTube.
In 2014, Diljit starred in Disco Singh and Punjab 1984. Punjab 1984 won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Punjabi. Diljit was the first South Asian artist to visit the US headquarters of Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram on the same day. In 2015, he sang a duet with Gurdas Maan called Ki Banu Duniya Da on Coke Studio @ MTV.
Diljit then starred in the Hindi film Udta Punjab (2016), which was his first Bollywood movie. The film was a big success. Diljit also sang the song "Ik Kudi" for the movie. Critics praised his performance.
In 2017, Diljit starred in Phillauri with Anushka Sharma. In 2018, he played the main character in Sajjan Singh Rangroot, a film about World War I. In 2019, Diljit became the first turbaned Sikh to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds. In the same year, he acted in Good Newwz with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. This movie became one of the highest-earning films of 2019.
In 2020, he appeared in the movie Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari. He also sang a spiritual song called "Paigambar."
Recent Achievements and Global Recognition (2020-Present)

In 2020, Diljit's 11th album, G.O.A.T., became a global hit. It reached the top of Billboard's Top Triller Global chart.
In 2021, Diljit released his twelfth album, "Moonchild Era." This album reached #32 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart. This made him the first Indian artist to have three albums on Billboard Charts. In 2021, he was also included in the Sikh 100 list. He produced his first film, Honsla Rakh, which also starred him. The film earned a lot on its opening day, making it the highest-earning Punjabi film on its first day. In March 2022, he signed with Warner Music.
In April 2023, Diljit performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He was the first Indian Punjabi artist to perform there.
In 2024, Diljit played the Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila in the Imtiaz Ali film Amar Singh Chamkila, which was released on Netflix. Critics praised Diljit's acting and singing in the movie.
Diljit performed two of his songs, "Born to Shine" and "GOAT," on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June 2024. He also sang a promotional song for the Telugu sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD (2024). He starred in the Punjabi comedy film Jatt & Juliet 3 with Neeru Bajwa. This movie became the 2nd highest-earning Punjabi film of all time.
In 2025, Diljit made his debut at the Met Gala. He wore a special Maharaja outfit with an ivory turban and gold embroidery, showing off his Punjabi heritage. He was voted the best-dressed celebrity in a Vogue poll.
Diljit will work again with director Anurag Singh for Border 2, a sequel to the 1997 film Border. He is also confirmed to appear in No Entry 2, a sequel to the 2005 film No Entry.
Artistry
Diljit Dosanjh is always trying new musical ideas and looks. He learned music from Gobinder Singh Alampuri and Kartar Singh, and his early music showed their style. Later, working with Honey Singh added a new side to his music. Many composers have influenced him, including Jaidev Kumar, Sukhpal Sukh, and Tru Skool. His dream is to create a Punjabi song that becomes a worldwide hit, like the Korean song Gangnam Style.

In August 2020, he became the first Punjabi artist to be featured in Times Square in New York City.
Brand Endorsements
In August 2015, Coca-Cola chose Diljit Dosanjh to promote their brand in Punjab, India. Flipkart, a big online shopping company in India, also picked Diljit for their "Flipkart Connect" campaign in Punjab. Diljit was made a brand ambassador for Season 4 of the Star Sports Pro Kabbadi league. He sang the league's theme song, "Asli Panga."
Helping Others
Diljit Dosanjh started an NGO called Saanjh Foundation. This organization helps children and seniors who are in need. It supports orphanages and old age homes. It also works to help young people build self-confidence, stay healthy, and develop their careers. The name "Saanjh" comes from his last name and means "friendship" or "unity." He launched this foundation on his birthday in 2013.
