Gurdas Maan, born on January 4, 1957, is a famous Indian singer, songwriter, and actor. He is best known for his work in Punjabi music and movies. He became very popular in 1980 with his hit song "Dil Da Mamla Hai." Since then, he has released over 34 albums and written more than 305 songs. In 2015, he performed "Ki Banu Dunia Da" with Diljit Dosanjh on MTV Coke Studio India. Many people consider him one of the greatest and most important Punjabi musicians ever.

Early Life and Beginnings

Gurdas Maan was born in Giddarbaha, Punjab. His parents were Gurdev Singh and Tej Kaur. He went to school in Giddarbaha and later graduated from DAV College, Malout. From a young age, he loved music and enjoyed mimicking others.

Gurdas Maan's Career Journey

Before becoming a full-time musician, Maan worked for the electricity board. He got this job after officials saw him perform at a singing event. In 1980, a producer asked him to sing "Dil Da Mamla Hai" on DD National. This song quickly made him famous.

Awards and Special Recognitions

Gurdas Maan is the only Punjabi singer to win a National Award for Best Male Playback Singer. He won this award at the 54th National Film Awards. He earned it for his singing of Heer in the film Waris Shah: Ishq Daa Waaris. This film was even considered for the Academy Awards (Oscars).

After "Dil Da Mamla Hai," he had more hits like "Mamla Gadbad Hai" and "Chhalla." "Chhalla" was a popular song from the 1986 Punjabi film 'Laung Da Lishkara'. He also starred in many successful Bollywood films. In 2005, the President of India gave him the Jury's Award.

In 2009, his album Boot Polishan won "Best International Album" at the UK Asian Music Awards. In 2017, he received the "Filmfare Award for Living Legend" at the first Filmfare Awards Punjabi.

Gurdas Maan is married to Manjeet Maan. They have a son named Gurickk Maan. Gurickk is married to actress Simran Kaur Mundi.

In 2007, Gurdas Maan was in a car accident near Karnal, Haryana. His car was hit by a truck, but he only had minor injuries. His driver was also hurt but recovered. This was his second car accident. In 2001, he was in another accident near Rupnagar, Punjab, where his driver, Tejpal, sadly passed away. Maan later said that his driver had told him to wear his seat belt, which saved his life. He wrote a song called "Baithi sade naal savari utter gayi" to remember his driver and friend.

Gurdas Maan is a big fan of the Manchester United football club. His mother, Tej Kaur, passed away in 2016.
