Abrar-ul-Haq is a famous Pakistani singer, songwriter, and a kind-hearted person who helps others. He has also been involved in politics.

His first music album, Billo De Ghar, came out in 1995. It sold over 40 million copies around the world. This made him very well-known and earned him the nickname "King of Pakistani pop".

Abrar-ul-Haq started and leads the Sahara for Life Trust. This group has been helping people with health services in Narowal and nearby areas since 1998. He was also a candidate for the National Assembly in the 2018 elections.

Early Life and Education

Abrar-ul-Haq was born in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, on July 21, 1969. His father worked for the government. Abrar-ul-Haq is the youngest of eight children.

He went to Junior Model School in Gujrat first. Later, he studied at Sir Syed College in Rawalpindi. He then earned a master's degree in social sciences from Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad.

Academic Career

For a short time, Abrar-ul-Haq worked as a teacher at Aitchison College in Lahore. However, he left teaching to focus on his music career.

Abrar-ul-Haq released his first music album, Billo De Ghar, in 1995. It quickly became very popular.

Song Discussions

Some of Abrar-ul-Haq's songs have caused discussions in Pakistan.

  • After his hit song Billo De Ghar came out in 1995, some people felt its meaning was not appropriate. Because of these concerns, the song was later banned from state-owned TV and radio channels.
  • In the early 2000s, his song Nach Punjaban also faced some opposition. Some thought the word "Punjaban" was used in a way that was disrespectful to Punjabi women. Abrar-ul-Haq then re-recorded the song, changing the word to "Majajan".
  • In 2007, the Supreme Court of Pakistan asked Abrar-ul-Haq to explain his song Parveen. They thought the song used the name "Parveen" in a way that might upset people.
  • In 2019, his song Chamkeeli was discussed in a court in Lahore. Some people asked for the song to be banned from YouTube, saying it was insulting to both men and women.

Helping Others

Sahara for Life Trust

Abrar-ul-Haq is the founder and chairman of Sahara for Life Trust (SLT). He has led this organization since it started in 1998. SLT is a private group that works to improve health and education in faraway areas. The name SAHARA stands for "Services Aimed at Health and Awakening in Remote Areas".

SLT is a well-known charity in Pakistan, the U.K., and the U.S. It has helped with many relief efforts over the years. In 2003, SLT opened its first large hospital in Narowal, Pakistan. This hospital, called Sughra Shafi Medical Hospital Complex, offers many health services. It has helped save lives by making it easier for people in critical condition to get medical care without traveling far.

Niaz Support

In 2023, Abrar-ul-Haq became a global goodwill ambassador for Niaz Support. This group in Pakistan makes special wheelchairs for people with disabilities. It also helps these individuals find jobs by involving them in making the wheelchairs.

Political Journey

Youth Parliament of Pakistan

In 2006, Abrar-ul-Haq started the Youth Parliament of Pakistan (YPP). This program is not for profit, politics, or religion.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (2011-2023)

In December 2011, Abrar-ul-Haq joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf political party.

In 2012, he became the President of the Youth Wing of PTI. In 2013, he was made the party's Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

He ran for a seat in the National Assembly in the 2013 elections but did not win. He ran again in the 2018 elections for the National Assembly but also lost.

On November 15, 2019, he was chosen as the 16th chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society. He started this role on December 27, 2019.

In 2023, he decided to leave the PTI and stop being involved in politics after some political events.

Abrar-ul-Haq has received several important awards for his work:

  • Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence): He received this award from the President of Pakistan on March 23, 2005. It was given for his public service, music, and charity work.
  • Sitara-e-Eisaar: He received this award from the President of Pakistan on June 30, 2006. It was for his amazing help during the big earthquake in Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
  • OIC Humanitarian Ambassador: On January 11, 2011, he was appointed as a Humanitarian Ambassador for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
