The Rajasthani language is a group of languages spoken mainly in the Rajasthan state of India. It belongs to the Indo-Aryan languages family, which is a large group of languages spoken across South Asia. Experts believe that between 50 and 80 million people speak Rajasthani around the world.
Where is Rajasthani Spoken?
Rajasthani is mostly spoken in India. You can hear it in the states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat.
It's also spoken in some parts of Pakistan. In Pakistan, you'll find Rajasthani speakers in the Sindh and Punjab provinces.
How Old is Rajasthani?
The Rajasthani language is thought to have developed from an older language called Old Gujarati. This means it shares a common ancestor with the Gujarati language, which is spoken in the state of Gujarat, India. Over many years, Old Gujarati changed and grew into the different languages we hear today, including Rajasthani.
