Parineeti Chopra (born 22 October 1988) is an Indian actress who is known for her work in Hindi films. She has won many awards for her acting, including a Filmfare Award and a National Film Award. She has also been on Forbes India's list of top celebrities since 2013.
Before becoming an actress, Chopra studied business, finance, and economics at Manchester Business School in England. She started her acting career in 2011 with the movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She became more famous with successful movies like Ishaqzaade (2012), Shuddh Desi Romance (2013), and Hasee Toh Phasee (2014). For Ishaqzaade, she received a Special Mention at the National Film Awards.
After a three-year break, she appeared in several films. The comedy Golmaal Again (2017) and the war movie Kesari (2019) were very successful. More recently, she has been praised for her roles in Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021) and Amar Singh Chamkila (2024).
Besides acting, Chopra is also a singer and has sung songs for her movies, like "Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin". She has appeared on television as a judge on the talent show Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan. She is married to Raghav Chadha, an Indian politician.

Early life and work
Parineeti Chopra was born on 22 October 1988, in Ambala, Haryana, to a Punjabi Hindu family. Her father, Pawan Chopra, is a businessman who works with the Indian Army, and her mother is Reena Chopra. She has two brothers, Shivang and Sahaj. The famous actresses Priyanka Chopra, Meera Chopra, and Mannara Chopra are her cousins.
Chopra was a very good student and wanted to be an investment banker, a person who helps companies manage their money. When she was 17, she moved to England and earned a degree in business, finance, and economics from Manchester Business School. While studying, she worked part-time for the Manchester United Football Club. Chopra is also a trained classical singer and used to perform on stage with her cousin Priyanka when they were children.
In 2009, she moved back to India and started working at Yash Raj Films, a famous film studio. She worked in the marketing department as a public relations consultant, helping to promote movies. While working on the film Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), she realized she wanted to be an actress.
She decided to leave her job to go to acting school. The head of the film company, Aditya Chopra, saw a video of her acting and was very impressed. He signed her for a three-movie contract, which started her acting career.
Acting career
A successful start (2011–2014)
In 2011, Chopra made her first movie appearance in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. She played a supporting role as a girl named Dimple Chadda. The movie was a success, and critics loved her performance. She won many awards for Best New Actress, including a Filmfare Award.
Her second movie was Ishaqzaade (2012), where she had the main role. She played Zoya, a tough and spirited girl. The movie was a big hit, and her acting was highly praised. For this role, she won a Special Mention at the National Film Awards.
In 2013, she starred in Shuddh Desi Romance. The film was about modern relationships in small-town India. Chopra played Gayatri, an outspoken and independent girl. The movie did well, and her performance earned her another nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.
Her first movie in 2014 was Hasee Toh Phasee. She played a quirky scientist named Dr. Meeta Solanki. The film was a success, and critics praised her for playing such a unique character. Later that year, she starred in Daawat-e-Ishq and Kill Dil. These films were not as successful at the box office.
Career ups and downs (2015–2020)
After Kill Dil, Chopra took a three-year break from acting full-time. She returned in 2017 with the movie Meri Pyaari Bindu, where she played an aspiring singer.
Later that year, she starred in the horror-comedy Golmaal Again. The film was a huge blockbuster and became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. This was her most successful film financially.
In 2018, she appeared in Namaste England, but the film was not well-received by audiences or critics.
In 2019, she had a small but important role in the historical war film Kesari. The film was about the Battle of Saragarhi and was a major commercial success. Her second film that year, Jabariya Jodi, did not perform well at the box office.
Recent work (2021–present)
In 2021, Chopra starred in three films. The first was The Girl on the Train, released on Netflix. She played a woman going through a difficult time who gets involved in a mystery. Her performance was praised, even though the film received mixed reviews.
She then starred in the black comedy Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. Critics loved her performance, and she earned another nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Her final film of the year was Saina, a biography of the badminton champion Saina Nehwal. Chopra was praised for how she portrayed the famous athlete.
In 2022, she appeared in the action film Code Name: Tiranga and the drama Uunchai. In 2023, she reunited with actor Akshay Kumar in Mission Raniganj, a film based on a real-life coal mine rescue.
In 2024, Chopra played Amarjot Kaur, the wife of famous singer Amar Singh Chamkila, in the movie Amar Singh Chamkila. The film was released on Netflix and was praised by critics and audiences.

Television and music
Chopra has also worked in television. In 2014, she was a mentor on the show India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj. She has hosted several award shows, including the Filmfare Awards. In 2022, she was a judge on the reality show Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan.
She is also a talented singer. She sang her first song, "Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin", for her movie Meri Pyaari Bindu. People loved her singing. She also recorded a version of the song "Teri Mitti" for the movie Kesari.
Helping others

Chopra is very close to her family. For a long time, she kept her relationships private. In 2023, she got engaged to Raghav Chadha, a politician and member of the Indian Parliament. They got married on 24 September 2023, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Chopra has spoken openly about her past struggles with feeling sad and down. She has also talked about body positivity, which is about feeling good about your body no matter its shape or size. She believes everyone should try to be their healthiest and fittest, not just their skinniest.
