Tara Aghdashloo (Persian: تارا آغداشلو) is a talented writer, director, and producer who was born in Iran. She also works as a curator, which means she helps organize art shows. Tara has written a book of poetry and used to be a journalist for both Persian and English news. Later, she started working in films. About Tara Aghdashloo
Tara Aghdashloo was born in Tehran, Iran. Her mother, Firouzeh "Fay" Athari, is an architect, and her father, Aydin Aghdashloo, is a famous painter. When Tara was in high school, her family moved to Toronto, Canada.
Tara studied journalism at Ryerson University, focusing on writing for newspapers and magazines, and also on political science. She then earned her master's degree from London University's School of Oriental and African Studies. There, she studied how media works around the world and how people communicate across different countries.

Films and TV Shows
Tara's journalism and documentaries have been shown on Channel 4 News and BBC World. She has written, directed, and produced several documentaries, including Value of Contemporary Art, Riksdag, and the Ticket series. She also created a seven-part documentary series called City Map.
Tara was one of the first hosts and producers for Samte No, which was the first talk show on Manoto TV channel to feature only women speaking Persian. She has also independently produced and directed documentaries, music videos, and commercials.
Tara started making narrative films (movies with a story) after attending a workshop with filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who is still her mentor. Her first short film, The Ride, was shown at the Cinequest Film Festival in California. It won Best Short Film at the Nostalgia Film Festival. Her second short film, Bridge, was made for the BBC and was based on a poem. It has been nominated for many awards. Her third short film, Empty Your Pockets, is her first film in the Persian language.
Writing and Poetry
Tara's poetry has been published in English and Persian magazines. Her poetry book, This is Not a Pomegranate, came out in 2011. She has also written essays, articles, and reviews for many publications, including The Guardian, The Financial Times, and Harvard Business Review. She wrote the lyrics for King Raam's first solo music album, Songs of The Wolves.
In 2022 and 2023, Tara wrote articles for major newspapers about important events and social movements happening in Iran. She also wrote about how people living outside their home country can support causes they care about.
Organizing Art Shows
Tara helped manage and organize The Invisible Line (TIL) Gallery in East London for two years. During that time, they put on about 25 art shows. In 2017, she organized a special show featuring the work of Portuguese artist Cristina Rodrigues at the Castelo Branco Museum. Tara often writes reviews about art, especially by artists from Iran and the Middle East.
