Tarariras is a small city located in the southern part of the Colonia Department in Uruguay. It's a friendly place with a rich history and a growing community.

Where is Tarariras?
Tarariras is found where two roads, Route 50 and Route 22, meet. It's about 15 kilometers (9 miles) north of where Route 22 connects with Route 1. This location is also about 28 kilometers (17 miles) east-northeast of Colonia del Sacramento. Colonia del Sacramento is the main city of the Colonia Department.
A small stream called Arroyo Cuaró flows just east of Tarariras. The city is about 164 kilometers (102 miles) away from Montevideo, which is the capital city of Uruguay.
A Look at Tarariras's History
People started living in this area a long time ago. The very first beginnings of Tarariras date back to 1831. In that year, a man named José Rodríguez gave some of his land to Joaquín Viega.
A proper town was officially started here in 1892. It was first named "Joaquín Suárez." On June 17, 1919, it was officially recognized as a "Pueblo" (village). Later, on August 27, 1959, its name was changed to "Tarariras." At the same time, it was given the status of "Villa" (town). Finally, on November 7, 1969, Tarariras became a "Ciudad" (city).

In 2011, a count showed that 6,632 people lived in Tarariras. The city has grown quite a bit over the years.
