Tarboro, South Carolina facts for kids
Tarboro is a small community in Jasper County, South Carolina, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, the county helps manage the area. Tarboro is located where two important roads, U.S. Route 601 and U.S. Route 321, come together.
History of Tarboro's Train Line
For many years, Tarboro was connected to other towns by a train line. This line was part of the Southern Railway system. It helped people and goods travel between Tarboro and nearby places like Allendale, Lena, and Furman.
The train line started operating around 1899. It was an important way for people to get around and for businesses to move their products. However, after about 80 years, the train line stopped running around 1980. It closed because it was no longer making enough money to cover its costs. This meant it was not profitable to keep the trains running.
