Allendale is a town in South Carolina, United States. It is also the main town, or county seat, of Allendale County. In 2020, about 2,694 people lived there. Most of the people living in Allendale are African American.

History of Allendale
Allendale has many old and important buildings. Some of these are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These places are important because they tell us about the past.
For example, the Allendale County Courthouse and Smyrna Baptist Church are historic sites. Other notable places include Gravel Hill Plantation and Erwin House.
A famous artist named Jasper Johns grew up in Allendale. He lived there in the 1930s and 1940s. His grandfather, who was a farmer, raised him. Later, he lived with his aunt, who was a teacher in a small, two-room school.
In 2015, a writer named Paul Theroux visited Allendale. He wrote that the town looked like it was struggling. He described it as a place that faced many challenges.
On April 5, 2022, a strong tornado hit the southern part of Allendale. It caused a lot of damage to buildings. One person was hurt. The weather service even issued a special "tornado emergency" for the town.
