Taro Kagawa (born August 9, 1922 – died March 6, 1990) was a famous Japanese football player. He played as a forward, which means he was a player who tried to score goals. Kagawa was a member of the Japan national team. His brother, Hiroshi Kagawa, also played football and later became a journalist.

Early Life and Club Career

Taro Kagawa was born in Kobe, Japan, on August 9, 1922. After finishing his studies at Kobe University of Economics, he began his professional football career.

In 1948, he joined a team called Tanabe Pharmaceutical. He also played for another team, Osaka SC. While playing for Osaka SC, his team reached the finals of the Emperor's Cup three times. The Emperor's Cup is a very important football tournament in Japan. Osaka SC finished in second place in 1951, 1952, and 1953.

Playing for the National Team

Taro Kagawa was chosen to play for the Japan national team in March 1951. This was a special time because it was Japan's first international game after World War II.

His first game for Japan was on March 7, 1951, against Iran. This match was part of the 1951 Asian Games. Kagawa also played in the 1954 Asian Games. He played a total of 5 games for Japan before 1954.

Later Life and Achievements

Taro Kagawa passed away on March 6, 1990, when he was 67 years old. In 2006, he was honored for his contributions to Japanese football. He was chosen to be part of the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This is a special place that recognizes the greatest football players and people in Japanese football history.
