Taro Sugahara's Football Journey
Early Career and First Steps
Taro Sugahara was born in Otsu, Japan, on June 14, 1981. After finishing high school, he moved to Brazil in 2000 to play for a team called Mirassol. This was a big step for a young player!
In 2001, Taro returned to Japan and joined Kashiwa Reysol, a club in the top Japanese league, J1 League. He made his debut in 2002 but didn't play many games. In 2003, he moved to another J1 club, Vissel Kobe, but again, he didn't get much playing time.
Moving Through the Leagues
In 2004, Taro joined Sagan Tosu in the J2 League, which is the second division of Japanese football. He still found it hard to play regularly. In 2005, he moved to Ehime FC, a team in the Japan Football League (JFL), a lower professional league. Even though he didn't play many matches, his team had a great year! Ehime FC won the championship and was promoted to J2 at the end of the 2005 season.
Finding His Stride
Taro then moved to Zweigen Kanazawa in 2006, a club in the Japanese Regional Leagues, which are below the JFL. Here, he really started to shine! He played many games and scored a lot of goals.
From 2007 to 2008, he played for Grulla Morioka, another Regional Leagues club. He continued to play a lot and score many goals, showing his skills as a forward.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2009, Taro joined Blaublitz Akita (which was known as TDK at the time) in the JFL. He played many matches for them over two seasons. He then played for Sony Sendai in 2011 and Hoyo Oita in 2012, both in the JFL, though he didn't play as much during these years.
In 2013, Taro returned to Blaublitz Akita for a second time and played many games again. His final season was in 2014, when he rejoined Grulla Morioka, who had just been promoted to the new J3 League. He played 11 games and scored 1 goal before he stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2014 season.
After his playing career, Taro Sugahara became a manager. Since 2020, he has been managing J.FC Miyazaki.
