Early Life and Racing Start
Tarquinio Provini was born in Roveleto di Cadeo, Italy. His dad owned a garage, so Tarquinio grew up around engines and machines. He started riding motorcycles when he was just 10 years old.
He began racing in 1949, even though he was too young. To get around the rules, he used his uncle's name on his racing license! In 1954, he won the Motogiro of Italy, a big motorcycle race.
Becoming a World Champion
Later in 1954, Tarquinio moved up to the exciting world of Grand Prix racing. He quickly showed his skill by winning the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of that year.
In 1957, he won his first major title. He became the 125cc World Champion while riding for the Italian Mondial team. The very next year, in 1958, he won his second world title. This time, he was the 250cc World Champion with the MV Agusta team.
Racing Challenges and Retirement
After MV Agusta stopped racing in the smaller motorcycle classes, Provini joined the Moto Morini team. In 1963, he had an amazing season-long battle for the 250cc world championship. He was up against Honda's Jim Redman. Both riders won four races that year! The championship was decided in the very last race in Japan. Redman ended up winning by just two points, a very close finish.
In 1966, Tarquinio had a serious accident at the Isle of Man TT race. This injury meant he had to stop racing motorcycles professionally.
Life After Racing
Even though he couldn't race anymore, Tarquinio Provini didn't leave the world of motorcycles. He used his passion and knowledge to start a new company. He helped create Protar
, a company that made detailed model racing bikes. These models were very popular with fans! Tarquinio Provini passed away in Bologna in 2005.
