The Tarte tropézienne, also called "La Tarte de Saint-Tropez", is a delicious French dessert. It's made from a soft, sweet bread called brioche, which is cut in half. Inside, it's filled with a creamy lemon and vanilla pastry cream. The top is sprinkled with crunchy pearl sugar.

What is Tarte Tropézienne?

This special pastry is a type of sweet bread, like a soft bun. It's sliced horizontally, just like you would slice a burger bun. The two halves are then filled with a rich, smooth cream. This cream is flavored with both lemon and vanilla, giving it a fresh and sweet taste. Finally, small, hard sugar crystals, called pearl sugar, are sprinkled on top. They add a nice crunch and a pretty look.

How This Famous Pastry Began

The Tarte tropézienne was created in 1955. A baker named Alexandre Micka made it. He was from Poland and owned a pâtisserie (a French pastry shop) in Saint-Tropez. He had moved there after the war. Alexandre Micka knew this recipe from his grandmother, so it was a family secret!

A Star Gave it its Name

The pastry became famous thanks to a movie star! In 1955, the famous French actress Brigitte Bardot was in Saint-Tropez. She was filming a movie called And God Created Woman. Brigitte Bardot loved Alexandre Micka's dessert so much that she gave it its name: "Tarte tropézienne." This means "tart from Saint-Tropez."
