The Taseko River is a river in British Columbia, Canada. Its name in the original Chilcotin language is Desiqox. The Taseko River flows into the Chilko River, which then joins the Chilcotin River. Finally, the Chilcotin River flows into the mighty Fraser River near the city of Williams Lake.

The Taseko River starts high up in the mountains at a place called Taylor Pass. This area is part of the beautiful South Chilcotin region. From its source, the river flows north and then northwest. It eventually reaches the southern part of Upper Taseko Lake.

One of its main branches, the Lord River, also joins the Taseko River near Upper Taseko Lake. Another important branch, the Tchaikazan River, flows into the Taseko Lakes between Upper and Lower Taseko Lake. After leaving the Taseko Lakes, the river flows across a wide, flat area called the Chilcotin Plateau.

The Taseko River is about 30 kilometers long from its start to Upper Taseko Lake. From Lower Taseko Lake to where it meets the Chilko River, it's about 85 kilometers. If you include the 25-kilometer length of both Taseko Lakes, the total length of the Taseko River is around 140 kilometers.

Understanding the Name

The name "Taseko" comes from the Chilcotin language word "Desiqox". This word means "Mosquito River." The Taseko Lakes are called "Desiqox Biny" in the same language. In this name, "Biny" means "lake."
