The Story of Taswell
Taswell has an interesting past that dates back to the late 1800s.
How Taswell Got Its Name
In 1882, a post office was opened in this area. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The people who lived there wanted to name the community after a local family, the Laswell family. However, when the postal authorities wrote down the name, they made a mistake. They accidentally spelled it "Taswell" instead of "Laswell." Even though it was a mistake, the new name stuck, and the community has been called Taswell ever since. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing down in 1996.
