Tatsuya Masushima (増嶋 竜也, Masushima Tatsuya, born April 22, 1985) is a Japanese football manager and former player. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. He is currently the manager of Shibuya City FC.

Playing Career Highlights

Early Football Days

Tatsuya Masushima started his football journey playing for Ichiritsu Funabashi High School from 2001 to 2003. After high school, he joined his first professional club, FC Tokyo, in 2004. He played there for a few seasons, gaining experience as a young defender.

Moving to Different Clubs

During his career, Masushima played for several different teams. He was loaned to Ventforet Kofu in 2007 and then to Kyoto Sanga FC in 2008. These loans helped him get more playing time and develop his skills. He later joined Kyoto Sanga FC permanently.

Success with Kashiwa Reysol

One of the most successful parts of Masushima's career was with Kashiwa Reysol. He joined them in 2011 and stayed until 2019. During his time there, the team won some big championships. They won the J1 League in 2011, the Emperor's Cup in 2012, and the J.League Cup in 2013. He was a key player in these victories.

Later Career and Retirement

After Kashiwa Reysol, Masushima also played on loan for Vegalta Sendai in 2017. He then moved to JEF United Chiba, first on loan in 2018 and then permanently in 2020. He played for JEF United Chiba until December 2020, when he decided to retire from playing professional football.

National Team Experience

Representing Japan's Youth Teams

Tatsuya Masushima also had the chance to play for Japan's national youth teams. He was part of the Japan U-20 national team. In June 2005, he was chosen to play in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. This is a big tournament for young players from all over the world.

World Youth Championship Performance

At the 2005 World Youth Championship, Masushima played in all four matches for Japan. He played as a center back, which is a very important defensive position. His team reached the Round of 16 in the tournament.

Becoming a Manager

Starting a New Chapter

After retiring as a player, Tatsuya Masushima decided to stay in football but in a new role: as a manager. On January 8, 2023, he officially became the manager of Shibuya City FC. This means he is now in charge of coaching the team and making decisions about how they play.

Managerial Achievements

As a manager, Masushima has already achieved some success. In 2024, his team, Shibuya City FC, finished as the runner-up in the Tokyo Prefectural League Division 1. This shows his potential as a coach and leader.

Tatsuya Masushima is married to Reiko Shiota, who is a famous badminton player. They got married on September 30, 2012.
