Taufiq Rafat (born October 25, 1927 – died August 2, 1998) was a famous writer and poet from Pakistan. He helped shape how Pakistani poets wrote in English. Many people say he was the first to bring the idea of a "Pakistani way of speaking" into English poems.
Taufiq Rafat held special workshops where he taught poetry. These workshops helped many younger poets learn and grow. After he had a stroke in 1984, he stopped writing. He passed away in Lahore in 1998 when he was 71 years old.

Taufiq Rafat wrote many poems. One of his well-known poems is called Children Understand Him.
Children Understand Him
This poem talks about the life of an old man, who is a grandfather. The poem uses a special way of speaking, called a metaphor, to describe him. It says he is like a "Dry Stream Bed." This means that when he was young, his life was full of energy, like a flowing river. Now, he is older and his life is quieter.
The poem also says he is "Living on Memories." This means he often thinks about his past. When guests come to visit, the old man might be sent to his room. This is because he might tell long stories that could bore the new guests.
