This means it became its own official area with its own local government. Before 2011, it was part of the Santa Rosa del Monday district.

In 2017, about 8,287 people lived in Tavapy. The district has its own leader, called an Intendente municipal. This person is like the mayor of the district. They are in charge of making decisions and managing things for the people who live there. The current Intendente is Aníbal Fidabel Romero.

Tavapy is located at an elevation of 264 meters above sea level. This means it's a bit higher up than some other places. The climate in Tavapy is a Humid subtropical climate, often called "Cfa."
