Tavis Bailey (born on June 1, 1992) is an American athlete. He is famous for competing in the discus throw, a sport where athletes throw a heavy disc as far as they can.
About Tavis Bailey
Early Life and School
Tavis Bailey was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He grew up and went to A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
After high school, Tavis earned a special scholarship. This scholarship allowed him to play football and join the track team at Lenoir–Rhyne University. In 2012, he moved to the University of Tennessee. He finished his college sports career there.
College Sports Journey
When Tavis joined the University of Tennessee in 2012, he quickly showed his talent. He placed second in the discus event at the SEC Outdoor Championships. This is a big competition for college athletes in the southeastern U.S.
In 2015, Tavis was the runner-up in the discus throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. This event brings together the best college athletes from all over the United States.
Becoming a Pro Athlete
Tavis Bailey became a professional athlete. He qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He earned his spot by placing second at the 2016 US Olympic Trials. His throw was 63.42 meters, which is about 208 feet!
