Taylor Steven King (born May 30, 1988) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a Small forward. King played for several college teams, including the Duke Blue Devils and Villanova University Wildcats. He also played for Concordia University.
King attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He had a very successful high school basketball career. He scored 3,216 points, which was the third-highest total in California high school history.
High School Basketball Achievements
While at Mater Dei High School, Taylor King set many school records. He scored 3,216 total career points. In 2007, he scored 987 points in a single season. He also made 370 three-pointers during his high school career. King grabbed 1,456 career rebounds. In 2006, he had 444 rebounds in one season.
From 2003 to 2006, King took part in the ABCD Camp. This camp brings together the best high school basketball players in the United States.
College Basketball Journey
Taylor King started his college basketball career at Duke University. He played for the Duke Blue Devils during his freshman year. After the spring 2008 semester, he decided to transfer to Villanova University.
Due to NCAA rules, King did not play during the 2008–09 season. However, he returned to play for Villanova in the 2009–10 season. He still had three years of college eligibility left.
In the summer of 2010, Taylor King left the Villanova men's basketball team. He later transferred to Concordia, an NAIA school.
Professional Basketball Career
Taylor King began his professional basketball career in 2011. On October 21, 2011, he joined the London Lightning team. This team is part of the National Basketball League of Canada.
However, the Lightning released him on January 17, 2012. Soon after, on February 2, he was signed by the Quebec Kebs.
On September 17, 2014, King signed a one-year contract. He joined the Cheshire Phoenix team in the British Basketball League. His coach there was John Coffino.
King quickly made a big impact with the Cheshire Phoenix. He was the top scorer in the league. He averaged 20.1 points per game over 33 games. One of his best games was when he scored 36 points against the Sheffield Sharks. He was also fifth in the league for rebounding. He averaged 9.5 rebounds per game.
After the 2017–18 season, Taylor King retired from playing basketball professionally.
