Taylors Valley is a small, quiet community in Washington County, Virginia, in the United States. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather a group of homes and people living together. You can find it southeast of a town called Abingdon. To get there, you can use Highway 58 or Taylor Valley Road, which comes from Tennessee to the south.

Where is Taylors Valley?

Taylors Valley is located in the southwestern part of Virginia. It sits high up, about 722 meters (2,369 feet) above sea level. It is very close to the border with the state of Tennessee.

Mountains and Water

This community is part of the beautiful Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. To the west, you'll see Fork Mountain. To the east, Laurel and Chestnut mountains stand tall. A stream called Whitetop Laurel Creek flows right through Taylors Valley.

The Virginia Creeper Trail

Taylors Valley is famous for being along a popular bike path called the Virginia Creeper Trail. This trail slowly climbs up into the valley, making it a great spot for bike riders. The closest town to Taylors Valley is Damascus, which is located to the west.

What's the Economy Like?

Taylors Valley is an old-fashioned country village. It doesn't have many businesses. There are no gas stations or big stores. People who live here usually go to stores in Damascus, Virginia, or Mountain City, Tennessee, to buy their daily needs.

Local Businesses

For a long time, the only place to eat in Taylors Valley was Hellbender's Cafe. It opened around the same time another cafe, the Creeper Train Cafe, closed in 2020. There used to be a small store called Widener's Grocery. But it closed when its owner, Clarence "Eddie" Widener, passed away in 2020. Some of Eddie's family members have plans to open the store again sometime before 2024.

Tourism and the Trail

The Virginia Creeper Trail runs through Taylors Valley. This trail brings many visitors, including hikers and bike riders, for most of the year. This foot traffic helps the local economy, even with few businesses around.
