In 1836, a man named James Taylor Jr. played a big role. He was from Campbell County. Mr. Taylor set up a new ferry service here. He then decided to name the town after himself, calling it Taylorsport.

The 1974 Tornado Outbreak
In 1974, a very powerful tornado struck the area. This tornado was part of the 1974 Super Outbreak, which was a huge series of tornadoes. The storm hit both Sayler Park and Taylorsport.
Impact of the Tornado on Taylorsport
The tornado caused a lot of damage in Taylorsport. It completely destroyed a business called Morehead Marine Service. About 50 homes and 20 barns were also damaged. The storm also ruined 186 boats and sadly killed 50 dairy cows in the two communities.
