How Tazza D'Oro Began
Tazza D'Oro first opened its doors in June 1999. Amy Enrico received help from the Community Development Corporation. This is a non-profit group that helps improve areas like Highland Park. By the year 2000, the coffee shop had grown to have 12 employees.
The cafe first used coffee beans from Batdorf and Bronson. Later, they switched to Verve Coffee Roasters. For a while, there was also a Tazza D'Oro location on Penn Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh. In 2009, the new location opened at Carnegie Mellon University. Many businesses wanted to be in that building. Tazza D'Oro was chosen because of its promise to use "fair trade and organically grown coffee." This means the coffee is produced in a way that is good for farmers and the environment.
Celebrating 10 Years
In 2009, Tazza D'Oro celebrated its 10th anniversary. More than 200 customers came to enjoy coffee and drinks from East End Brewing Company.

Amy Enrico has also worked with East Liberty Development Inc. This group helps bring more businesses to nearby areas, especially Bryant Street. The cafe also hosts local officials sometimes. This allows them to talk with people from the community.
