Teanaway, Washington facts for kids
Teanaway is a small settlement in Kittitas County, Washington. It is located where two main roads, State Route 10 and State Route 970, meet. You can find it east of Cle Elum and west of Ellensburg. The beautiful area around it is known as the Teanaway River Valley.
A Look Back in Time
The Teanaway River Valley was once home to Native American tribes. These included the Yakama, Cayuse, and Nez Perce people. They used this valley as a summer gathering place to find food. Teanaway officially became a settlement in 1885.
Nature and Weather
The Teanaway River Valley is famous for the Teanaway River. This river has three main branches: the North Fork, Middle Fork, and West Fork. A big hill called Cle Elum Ridge separates the valley from the town of Cle Elum.
Teanaway is also one of the few places in Washington State where wild wolf populations live. It's exciting to have these amazing animals in the area!
Like many places in Eastern Washington, the Teanaway Valley sits in a "rain shadow." This means the tall Cascade Mountains block most of the clouds and rain coming from the west. So, Teanaway gets a lot more sunshine than places like Seattle. The weather here is also different. Winters are colder, and summers are warmer than areas west of the mountains. It's also much drier here.
