Edward Lambert à Beckett (born August 11, 1907 – died June 2, 1989) was an Australian cricket player. People often called him Ted. He played in four important Test matches for Australia between 1928 and 1931. He also played in 47 first-class games for the Victoria team.

Ted a'Beckett was a talented Australian cricketer. He was known for his right-handed batting and right-arm fast-medium bowling. He was a tall player, standing 6 feet (183 cm) tall.
Early Life and Education
Ted was born in St Kilda East, Victoria, Australia. He was one of three sons. His father, Thomas Archibald à Beckett, was a lawyer. His grandfather, Sir Thomas à Beckett, was a judge.
Ted went to the University of Melbourne. He studied law there, starting in 1927. He joined Trinity College at the university. Ted was very good at sports during his time at college.
Sports at University
Ted played both cricket and Australian rules football for his university team. He was a strong athlete. However, he had a serious injury while playing. He fractured his skull, which is a very serious head injury.
Ted's Cricket Career
Ted a'Beckett played cricket at a high level. He represented his home state, Victoria, in many matches. These games are called first-class matches. He played 47 of these games.
Playing for Australia
Ted also got to play for Australia in Test matches. These are the highest level of international cricket. He played in four Test matches. His first Test game was in December 1928 against England. His last Test game was in January 1932 against South Africa.
After Cricket
After he stopped playing cricket, Ted continued to be involved in the sport. He was a lawyer by profession. He helped manage the Victorian Cricket Association. This group helps organize cricket in Victoria.
