Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Teekampagne is a German company that sells tea, mainly through mail order. It's based in Potsdam, Germany. Teekampagne is known for being the biggest mail order tea business in Germany. It's also the world's largest buyer of loose Darjeeling tea.

Teekampagne has a special system that lets you trace every package of tea back to the tea garden where it grew. This system also includes documents about how the tea was tested, its quality, and where it came from.

How Teekampagne Started

Teekampagne was created in Berlin in 1985. It was founded by Günter Faltin, who is a professor and an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who starts and runs a business.

Smart Business Choices

The company's way of doing business helps save money. Here's how:

  • They buy tea directly from India, which cuts out extra steps.
  • They focus on selling only one type of tea: Darjeeling.
  • They only sell organic teas, which means they are grown without harmful chemicals.
  • They test their tea very carefully to make sure it's high quality.
  • They sell tea in big packages, which saves on packaging costs.
  • They save money on storage and transportation.

Helping the Planet: Reforestation

Teekampagne works with the WWF on a special project. This project is all about planting trees in Darjeeling, India. It's called the SERVE project.

Why Plant Trees?

The main goal of the SERVE project is to stop soil erosion. Soil erosion happens when wind or water washes away the top layer of soil, especially on steep hills. Planting trees helps hold the soil in place. This project started in 1992 and is a long-term effort to protect the environment.

What They've Achieved

So far, the project has done a lot of good:

  • They have replanted trees on an area of land as big as 210 football fields.
  • They have set up 22 tree nurseries. These are places where young trees are grown before they are planted in the ground.
  • In just one year, they grew 260,000 young trees, called seedlings!

Learning About Nature

Along with planting trees, there's also an educational program.

  • Thirteen local schools work with the WWF project.
  • Students go on nature walks and watch birds.
  • They also take part in exhibitions and workshops about nature.
  • Research is done on things like recycling plastic and protecting birds that are in danger.
  • Workshops teach local people about medicinal plants and how to use them safely.

Future Plans

In the future, Teekampagne and WWF plan to plant even more trees. They want to reforest an area of 300 hectares near Senchal Lake. This lake is important because it provides water for the town of Darjeeling.

Teekampagne Around the World

Teekampagne also sells tea in other countries, but under different names:
