Telford is a small community in Washington County, Tennessee. It is located between the towns of Jonesborough and Limestone. In 2020, about 909 people lived there.
Telford is part of the larger Johnson City area. This region is also known as the "Tri-Cities" because it includes Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol. Telford has one school called Grandview Elementary.

A Look at Telford's History
Telford was first known as Millwood many years ago. The name changed in 1855. This happened when Colonel George Whitfield Telford gave land for a railroad station. He was a state senator and owned a company nearby.
The railroad station was called Telford Depot. Later, after 1876, the word "Depot" was dropped. The community then became known simply as Telford.
Telford During the Civil War
During the American Civil War, some people in this area wanted to leave the Confederacy. They tried to create their own independent area called "Bricker's Republic." However, this idea did not last long.
A small battle took place in Telford on September 8, 1863. Soldiers from the 100th Ohio Infantry fought against a Confederate group. This group was called Thomas' Legion. The battle happened just east of the railroad depot.
