Scientific classification

The Telmatobius truebae is a special type of frog that lives in the Telmatobiidae family. It's sometimes called Trueb's Water Frog. This frog is quite unique because it's only found in one country: Peru. This means it is endemic to Peru, and you won't find it living naturally anywhere else in the world!

About Trueb's Water Frog

Trueb's Water Frog is a small amphibian. It was first described by scientists in 1993. Like all frogs, it starts its life as a tadpole in water. It then grows into an adult frog.

Where Does It Live?

This special frog lives in specific places in Peru. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. These are forests found in mountains where it's often wet and warm.

It also likes to live near rivers. Frogs need water to survive and lay their eggs. You might also find it in canals and ditches. These are often man-made waterways.

Why Is It Important?

The Trueb's Water Frog is an important part of its ecosystem. It helps keep the balance of nature in its habitat. Sadly, this frog is currently listed as "Vulnerable" (VU) by the IUCN. This means its population is decreasing, and it could be at risk of extinction if we don't protect its home. Protecting these frogs helps protect the whole environment they live in.
