Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah was born on 17 September 1995. He is the heir apparent, which means he is next in line to become the Sultan of the Malaysian state of Pahang.
Tengku Hassanal became the Crown Prince when his father, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, became the Sultan of Pahang in 2019. He is the oldest son of the Sultan and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang (Queen Consort), Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. From January 2019 to January 2024, he served as the Regent of Pahang. This meant he managed the state while his father was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia.

Early Life and Family
Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah was born in Kuantan, Pahang, at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. He is the fourth child and second son of his parents. At the time, his father was the Crown Prince of Pahang, and his mother was the Crown Princess. Sadly, his older brother, Tengku Ahmad Iskandar Shah, passed away shortly after birth.
Education Journey
Tengku Hassanal started his schooling at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan St. Thomas in Kuantan. He then went to secondary school in the United Kingdom at Caldicott School and Sherborne School.
After that, he studied at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations in Switzerland. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations. In September 2022, he began his advanced studies at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.
Military Training
As the future leader of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal received military training. In 2019, he spent 44 weeks at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. He successfully graduated from Sandhurst in December 2019.
In January 2020, Tengku Hassanal was given the rank of Second Lieutenant by his father, Sultan Abdullah of Pahang. After finishing his training, he joined the 4th Mechanised Brigade of the 12th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, which is based in Pahang.
Becoming Crown Prince of Pahang
Tengku Hassanal was officially named the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Pahang on 22 January 2019. He then served as the Regent of Pahang. This was because his father became the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia from 2019 to 2024.
A special ceremony was held on 29 January 2019, where Tengku Hassanal took an oath to serve his state. His parents, family, and important state officials were there. Two days later, his parents left for Kuala Lumpur to begin their roles as the King and Queen of Malaysia.
His first official duty as Regent was to represent Pahang at his father's swearing-in ceremony as the 16th King of Malaysia. He also represented Pahang at his father's official installation ceremony later that year.
As Crown Prince, Tengku Hassanal holds important roles. He is the Chancellor of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UniPSAS). He is also the President of the State Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP).
