Tenkodogo is a city in Burkina Faso. It's the main city of the Boulgou Province and the Centre-Est Region. In 2019, about 61,936 people lived there.
It's also the ancient capital of the Tenkodogo Mossi Kingdom. This kingdom started around the year 1100. Many other Mossi Kingdoms grew from this one. The name Tenkodogo means "ancient land."

What People Do for Work
The villages around Tenkodogo mainly focus on raising animals. This is called animal husbandry.
The city has a big market that happens every three days.
You can find good places to eat in Tenkodogo. The Restaurant Patisserie Salon du Thé is famous for its tea, yogurt, and pastries. Le Rotisseur restaurant is known for its grilled chicken.

Getting Around Tenkodogo
The town is connected to other cities like Koupéla and Bittou. These connections are made by the N15 highway.

Tenkodogo is about 185 kilometers (115 miles) from Ouagadougou. It takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to travel by car.
City Improvements
Before a big festival in 2019 called 11 Dècembre, Tenkodogo got many new roads. Several roads and roundabouts were paved with asphalt. This made it much faster to move around the city.
Also, the old dirt runway in Tenkodogo was removed. In its place, a new neighborhood was built. It's called the 11 Dècembre neighborhood, or "Cité 11 Decémbre." This area has many modern homes.
The Royal Family
The home of the royal family is called the Palais Royal de Tenkodogo. People also call it Na-Yiri in the Mooré language. It is located very close to the main market. The market is known as Marchè de Tenkodogo or Tenkodogo Raaga in Mooré.
The current leader of the royal family is His Majesty King Naba Guiguem-Pollé. He is the King of the Kingdom of Tenkodogo.
Most people who are part of the royal family have the last name Sorgho. They are often called the naabisi, which means "royals" of the city.
The royal family is still very important in Tenkodogo. They help solve disagreements about land or family problems in the city.
