Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue (born 25 June 1968) is a politician from Equatorial Guinea. He is often called Teodorín or Teddy. Since June 22, 2016, he has served as the first Vice President of his country. He is the son of Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is the President of Equatorial Guinea, and his wife, Constancia Mangue.

He has held many important government jobs given to him by his father's government. These roles include Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. In May 2012, he became the Second Vice-President, in charge of defense and security. Later, in June 2016, he was promoted to the position of First Vice-President.

Early Life and Education

Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue went to school in France. He studied at the École des Roches, which is a private school in Normandy.

After that, he enrolled at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, United States. He joined a special program there to learn English as a second language. He stayed in a fancy hotel called the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. He did not attend classes very often. He left the university after about five months.

His Path in Politics

In the 1990s, Nguema worked as an Adviser to the Presidency. This was an important role in the government. After that, he became the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. He held this job for about fifteen years.

Becoming Vice President

In 2005, there were reports that Nguema might become the vice president of Equatorial Guinea. According to the country's rules, this position would allow him to become president if his father retired.

On May 21, 2012, he was appointed as the Second Vice-President. In this role, he was in charge of defense and security for the country. At the same time, Ignacio Milam Tang, a former Prime Minister, was named the First Vice-President.

After serving as Second Vice-President for four years, he received a promotion. On June 22, 2016, he became the First Vice-President. He continued to be responsible for defense and security. This change happened after his father was re-elected in the April 2016 presidential election. This move placed him in a clear position to potentially take over from his father in the future.
