Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue (born on June 25, 1968), also known as Teodorín or Teddy, is a politician from Equatorial Guinea. He has been the first Vice President of his country since 2016. He is the son of Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is the President of Equatorial Guinea. His mother is Constancia Mangue.
Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue has held many important jobs in his father's government. These include being the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. In May 2012, he became the Second Vice President, in charge of defense and security. He was promoted to First Vice President in June 2016. He also became the Minister of National Defense and Security in 2018. Since May 2022, he has led the country's anti-corruption commission, called the CNPCC. This commission works to prevent and fight against corruption. As head of this group, he has taken action against people who were seen as disagreeing with the government.
He is known for living a very fancy life. He has faced accusations from other countries about misusing money and corruption. His wealth is thought to be around $600 million. This includes a yacht, private jets, and luxury cars. His family has become very rich from Equatorial Guinea's large oil resources.
His Early Education
Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue went to a private school in France called the École des Roches. This school is located in Normandy. Later, he signed up for a special English language program at Pepperdine University. This university is in Malibu, California, in the United States.
While studying there, he lived in a very expensive hotel, the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. He did not attend classes very often. He left the program after only five months. Reports say the university asked him to leave.
His Role in Government
In the 1990s, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue worked as an adviser to the President. After that, he became the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. He held this job for about 15 years.
In 2005, there were talks that he might become the vice president of Equatorial Guinea. According to the country's rules, this would mean he could become president if his father retired. On May 21, 2012, he was made the Second Vice President. His job was to oversee defense and security. At the same time, Ignacio Milam Tang, a former Prime Minister, became the First Vice President.
After four years as Second Vice President, he was promoted. On June 22, 2016, he became the First Vice President. He continued to be in charge of defense and security. This change happened after his father was re-elected in the April 2016 presidential election. This move made it clear that he was next in line to become president after his father.
