Teori Albino Zavascki (born August 15, 1948 – died January 19, 2017) was an important Brazilian judge. He worked in Brazil's highest courts. From 2003 to 2012, he was a judge in the Superior Court of Justice. This court helps make sure laws are followed correctly.
Later, from 2012 until his death in 2017, he served as a judge in the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil. This is the highest court in Brazil, similar to a country's top court. At the time of his death, he was in charge of important cases related to a big investigation called Operation Car Wash.
Teori Zavascki's Death
Teori Zavascki died in a plane crash on January 19, 2017. The accident happened near Paraty, a town in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Four other people were also on board the small plane and died in the crash.
After the accident, officials started an investigation the very next day. They found the cockpit voice recorder, which helps them understand what happened during the flight.
What Caused the Plane Crash?
On January 22, 2018, the official investigation group, CENIPA, shared their final report. They found that the plane had enough fuel. The accident was mainly caused by three things:
- Bad Weather: The weather was very poor when the plane crashed. It was raining heavily, and it was hard to see clearly.
- Pilot Habits: The investigation found that some pilots who fly in this area often rely on their experience instead of strictly following safety rules. This can make flights riskier.
- Pilot Disorientation: Because of the bad weather, the way the plane was flying, and how low it was to the sea, the pilot likely became confused about the plane's position. This made him lose control of the aircraft.
