Tephrocactus alexanderi is a unique type of cactus. It belongs to a group of cacti called Tephrocactus. This plant is also part of a bigger cactus family known as Opuntioideae. You can find it growing naturally in Argentina, especially in a place called Catamarca. It also grows near the border with Bolivia. In these areas, the weather is super hot and very dry, which is perfect for this desert plant. The name T. geometricus comes from the Greek word geometria, which means geometry. This is because of its cool, geometric shape!
What Does Tephrocactus alexanderi Look Like?
Tephrocactus alexanderi grows in a really interesting way. It forms round, ball-shaped parts that are called lobes. These lobes sprout from each other, creating a cluster or clump of cacti.
The color of these cactus segments can change. They might be a blue-green color. But if they get a lot of sun, they can even turn a pretty purple!
Most of the time, this cactus doesn't have many spines. Sometimes, a few small spines might grow from the top parts of the plant called areoles.
When it blooms, Tephrocactus alexanderi produces beautiful flowers. These flowers are usually light pink to white. They often have a darker stripe down the middle of each petal, making them even more special.
