History of the Food Festival
The very first Salone del Gusto event happened in 1996. It was held at the Lingotto Fiere conference center. This was the start of a big tradition for food lovers.
Terra Madre Joins the Fun
In 2004, another important event called Terra Madre began. It took place at the same time as Salone del Gusto. Terra Madre brought together "food communities" from all over the world. These are groups of people who grow, prepare, and share food in ways that are good for the planet. They also work to keep old food traditions alive.
Combining Two Great Events
By 2012, Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre decided to join forces. They became one big event. This made it even better for everyone who loves food and wants to learn about sustainable practices.
In 2016, the event's name changed again to Terra Madre Salone del Gusto. This showed how important the Terra Madre part had become. For the first time, the festival moved out of the Lingotto center. It spread across many cool places in Turin's city center. These included the Parco del Valentino, the Royal Palace of Turin, and even the Museo Egizio.
Recent Locations and Changes
The event returned to Lingotto for one more time in 2018. In 2020, the physical festival could not happen because of the pandemic. Instead, many online events took place throughout the year.
In 2022, Terra Madre Salone del Gusto came back to the streets of Turin. It found a new home at Parco Dora. The festival is expected to stay there for its next edition in September 2024.
