Terran Last Gun, born in 1989 in Browning, Montana, is an American artist. He is a member of the Piikani Nation of Montana, which is part of the Siksikaitsitapii, also known as the Blackfoot Confederacy. Today, he lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Terran Last Gun's Early Life
Terran Last Gun grew up on the Piikani Reservation in Montana. He is a citizen of the Piikani Blackfoot people. His father, who is an artist and historian for their tribe, encouraged him to study museum work. From fourth grade, he went to the Lost Children immersion school on the Piikani Reservation. His great-uncle, Darrell Robes Kipp, helped start this school.
Terran Last Gun's Education
In 2011, Terran Last Gun earned a degree in Environmental Science from Blackfeet Community College in Browning, Montana. Later, in 2016, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Museum Studies. He also earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Terran Last Gun's Art and Work
Terran Last Gun mainly creates art using serigraphy (a type of screen printing), painting, ledger drawing, and photography. His artwork often shows stories about nature and the cosmos (the universe). He connects ancient ideas with modern times.
Last Gun says his art "reveals parts of time, history, and Indigenous Abstraction." This type of art has been around for thousands of years. He also finds inspiration in the painted lodges of the Blackfeet people. The designs on these lodges have been passed down through many generations. These designs usually have three parts: the sky world at the top, animal spirit helpers in the middle, and the Earth at the bottom.
In 2018, Last Gun had his own art show at the Institute of American Indian Arts. In 2020, he had another solo show called Terran Last Gun: Color Play at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe. He also had two solo shows in 2019 and 2020 at Hecho a Mano Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 2021, he had a show at Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Texas. His art has also been part of group shows at places like the Rainmaker Gallery in Bristol, UK, SITE Santa Fe, and the Santa Fe Institute.
Awards and Honors for Terran Last Gun
In 2020, Terran Last Gun received a special award called a fellowship from the First People's Fund. This award recognized him as an "Artist in Business Leadership." He also received a Story Maps fellowship from the Santa Fe Art Institute that same year.
In 2016, he was given the Goodman Aspiring Artist fellowship from the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. In 2017, he worked as an artist-in-residence at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Art. This means he was invited to create art there for a period of time.
