Terrmel Sledge, whose full name is Terrence Melvin Sledge, was born on March 18, 1977. He is an American who used to play professional baseball. He was an outfielder, which means he played in the part of the field farthest from home plate. Terrmel played for teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan. After his playing career, he became a coach, helping other players improve their hitting. He was even an assistant hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs.

Terrmel Sledge's Early Baseball Days
Terrmel Sledge went to John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, California. After high school, he continued to play college baseball at Long Beach State. In 1997, he also played summer baseball for a team called the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Playing Professional Baseball
Terrmel Sledge started his professional baseball journey in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2004. He played for the Montreal Expos. In his first year, he had a batting average of .269, hit 15 home runs, and helped score 62 runs.
Memorable Moments with the Expos
On September 29, 2004, Terrmel Sledge was part of a big moment in baseball history. He was the very last player to make an out in the final home game for the Montreal Expos. A few days later, on October 3, 2004, he got the last hit and the last RBI ever for the Expos. He helped Jamey Carroll score a run in that game.
Moving to New Teams
The Montreal Expos team moved to Washington, D.C., the next year and became the Washington Nationals. Terrmel Sledge moved with them and hit the very first home run for the new Washington Nationals team.
Later, in December 2005, he was traded to the Texas Rangers. Then, in January 2006, he was traded again to the San Diego Padres.
Playing Baseball in Japan
After playing in the MLB, Terrmel Sledge got permission from the Padres to play baseball in Japan. In November 2007, he signed with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in the Nippon Professional League (NPB). He later signed with the Yokohama BayStars for the 2010 season. He played in Japan until he retired after the 2012 season.
Coaching Baseball
After he stopped playing, Terrmel Sledge started a new career as a baseball coach. In 2015, he was an assistant hitting coach for the Eugene Emeralds. The next year, in 2016, he became the hitting coach for the Tulsa Drillers.
In 2018, the Chicago Cubs hired Terrmel Sledge as their assistant hitting coach for the 2019 season. He helped players improve their batting skills. He stayed with the Cubs until the end of the 2020 season.

Terrmel Sledge has a mixed heritage; his mother is Korean and his father is African American. His father shared that Terrmel's unique first name is a combination of two names his parents liked: Terrence and Melvin. Terrmel Sledge is also a father to two children.
