Terrence Owen Buckle (born August 24, 1940 – died September 10, 2020) was an important Canadian church leader. He was a bishop in the Anglican Church of Canada. He served as the Archbishop of Yukon from 1995 to 2010. He was also the Metropolitan of British Columbia and Yukon from 2005 until 2010.

Terry Buckle's Life and Work

Terry Buckle was born in Ontario, Canada, on August 24, 1940. He studied at the Church Army Training College in Canada. He also went to Wycliffe College, Toronto. The Church Army is a group that helps spread the Christian message.

Early Church Roles

In 1962, Terry Buckle became an Evangelist for the Church Army. An evangelist is someone who shares their faith with others. He worked in different churches in Toronto. From 1966 to 1975, he served in various missions in Canada's North. These places included Holman, Cambridge Bay, and Fort Simpson.

Becoming a Priest and Bishop

Terry Buckle became a deacon in May 1973. Later that year, in November 1973, he became a priest. A priest is a leader in the church who performs religious services. He then worked in Inuvik and later became an Archdeacon in the Liard area. An archdeacon helps the bishop manage a church region.

From 1988 to 1993, he was the Rector of Holy Trinity in Yellowknife. A rector is the main priest of a church. In 1993, he became a Bishop. A bishop is a senior leader in the church, overseeing many churches in a specific area called a diocese. He first served as a Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of the Arctic.

Leading the Yukon Diocese

Two years later, in 1995, Terry Buckle became the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yukon. This meant he was the main leader for all Anglican churches in the Yukon region. In 2005, he also became the Metropolitan of British Columbia and Yukon. This made him a very senior leader for a larger group of dioceses. He held these important roles until he retired in 2010.

After Retirement

Even after retiring, Terry Buckle continued to be active in the church. He spoke at events across Canada. He also served on the boards of Christian organizations.

In 2018, he joined a different group of Anglican churches called the Anglican Network in Canada. He continued to live and serve in Whitehorse, Yukon as a retired bishop. Terry Buckle passed away on September 10, 2020.
